The advent of canning foods in the 19th century lead to an explosion of pea farming by the turn of the 20th century. In 1902 there were over 2,000 canneries in the United States. From horse drawn mowers to 350 hp self propelled pea combines a variety of equipment has been used to harvest peas in the past 100 years.
